Teens in Abu Dhabi can join a new arts and culture council

Time to get involved with the NYU Abu Dhabi Art Gallery

Teens have passion for all things arts and culture?  The NYU Abu Dhabi Art Gallery is forming a new Teen Council in order to engage young people to be involved in the UAE’s arts and culture scene.

UAE nationals or residents between the ages of 13 and 18 can put themselves forward to be involved in the six-person council, which aims to encourage greater dialogue with the UAE’s younger generation and promote their active participation in the arts.

Anyone who makes it onto the council will have to commit to it until August 2021 and will have to take part in virtual meetings throughout the academic.

And if they really enjoy it, they have the option of extending their council place by up to three years.

Nominations for council members are open now, and all nominations need to be made by Thursday March 11.

They will also have the opportunity to work alongside The NYUAD Art Gallery’s education team to organise one online event in conjunction with the ongoing exhibition.

The assistant director of publications and education at The NYUAD Art Gallery, Alaa Edris, said: “Since The NYUAD Art Gallery’s inception in 2014, we have strived to become a locus of intellectual and creative activity where local communities, and especially the youth, can experiment with, and experience, the arts in a collaborative way whilst contributing to the region’s growing art and cultural ecosystem. We are thrilled to be finally able to bring the ‘Teen Council’ to life; we believe that it is vital to work with younger generations to welcome fresh ideas and perspectives that will shape the future direction of our sector in the years to come.”
