UAE to light up green on St Patrick’s Day

Expect a viridescent glow around the country

Of all Dubai’s beloved foreign imports, all things Irish take some beating.

It’s plain to see the city’s love for the Emerald Isle, what with a raft of St Patrick’s Day deals being rolled out this week in celebration of all things viridescent.

But some UAE establishments are taking the love to the next level, illuminating themselves in a green hue to mark Wednesday March 17 in recognition of the world’s most famous Irishman (sorry, Conor).

It’s all part of global initiative launched by Tourism Ireland to douse landmarks, icons of the skyline and venues in green to mark St Patrick’s Day 2021.

The international Global Greening campaign is 12 years strong, and these days is joined by 400 venues and landmarks across 53 countries.

Organisers say the initiative is about bringing hope and positivity to people around the world.

Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: “At a time when people living overseas cannot travel home, we want to shine a green light in as many locations around the world as possible, giving our diaspora a sense of connection with home and reminding them that we cannot wait to welcome them back, as soon as it is possible to do so.”

Here is a list of everywhere that is set to paint the town (quite literally) green on St Patrick’s Day.
