Ferry Corsten in Abu Dhabi

Get the low-down on Abu Dhabi-bound Ferry Corsten

Who says things close down in Abu Dhabi during the summer? We’ve just had Madonna grace us with her presence and now Ferry Corsten, the Dutch DJ, will spin the decks on June 28 at the fully air-conditioned Du Forum on Yas Island.

The Dutch trance music producer has been a popular fixture in Abu Dhabi over the last few years. He was part of the headline acts at Creamfields Abu Dhabi in 2011, and appeared at Skybar at the Flash Forum in 2010. This will be his first solo appearance in the capital, an event which will see the maestro spin hits from his fourth studio album WKND. Clubbers will also enjoy the support sounds of warm-up DJs Aly and Fila and Mister Outlaw.

Ferry Corsten has long been considered a visionary and been regarded as one of the few spinners who continue to deliver the best quality dance music to loyal fans across the globe. Corsten designed the Dutch trance sound, propelling it into the clubbing consciousness and the international world of electronica.

The award-winning DJ’s list of associations is just as impressive, working with a wide range of international vocalists such as Simon Le Bon and Guru. He has also remixed music by some of the planet’s biggest artists, including: U2, The Killers, Faithless, Moby and William Orbit.

He began his career performing self-composed music in his native country, Holland. In 1991 he produced the embryonic rave track ‘Spirit of Adventure’ and then in 1995, at the age of 21, under the name Hole-In-One, he won the prestigious De Grote Prijs van Nederland award in recognition for his outstanding contribution to Holland’s electronic dance music scene.

Mira Sadek from Flash Entertainment told us, ‘Ferry Corsten is a pioneer, an innovator and a DJ we are proud to welcome back to Abu Dhabi. To have him play our first summer show at the Du Forum gives thousands of die-hard clubbers from across the region the chance to party regardless of the weather.’

Ferry spoke to us about this album and what it’s all about. ‘The theme behind the album is actually the album title, which is short for weekend. The album has to create that weekend feeling where people relax and enjoy themselves. In general, we just want positive vibes when it’s our weekend and not have too much to worry about. That’s why I really wanted to give the album an uplifting and positive vibe. You will find more vocal tracks then I ever did on one album. I worked a little over a year on this album and I am really proud of the result and can’t wait to hear what the fans think of the album!’
