Abu Dhabi Festival returns for Ramadan 2021

Expect an all-star line-up of talent

Since launching in 2004, Abu Dhabi Festival has become an annual fixture on the Abu Dhabi arts and culture calendar, and it’s back this Ramadan for its 18th edition.

Celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation, the cultural event is being held under the theme of ‘The Future Starts Now’ and its Ramadan Series is kick-starting today (Tuesday April 20) with an all-star assembly of talent from Egypt, USA, the Levant and India.

Bringing together leading performers, musicians, composers for a string of performances, the Ramadan Series of performances, titled ‘Human Fraternity: Dignity and Hope’, is being held across digital and social platforms with the aim of spreading unity, hope and peace.

Highlights for the 2021 Ramadan Series include Lebanese-American Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter Mayssa Karaa who’s returning to Abu Dhabi Festival after her memorable 2015 performance, and Egyptian chanter Sheikh Mahmoud Al Tohamy who will be accompanied by Mohamed Tarek and Wael El Fashny.

Other notable names include Saudi stars Reem Al Tamimi (better known as Tamtam by her fans), Marwan Fagi, Mohammed Khayran Al Zahrani, and Rami Basahih.

“Reaffirming our commitment to further Abu Dhabi’s cultural vision of tolerance and understanding, the Ramadan Series unites us all in our humanity. The series highlights the values of togetherness, inclusion and cross cultural dialogue, through inspiring spiritual performances.”

Under the theme of ‘Human Fraternity: Dignity and Hope’, our Ramadan programme shines a light during these difficult times. As with every great challenge, our human fraternity shall carry us through,” said Her Excellency Huda Alkhamis-Kanoo, founder of the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation and artistic director of Abu Dhabi Festival.

Performances will take place at 9.30pm from Tuesday May 20 until Sunday May 2. For the full programme, visit abudhabifestival.ae/ramadan-series-2021.
