5 top movies to see in the cinema in the UAE this April

What to watch if you’re eyeing up the big screen this weekend

The location has been decided and you already know it’s going to be a big bucket of popcorn (sweet, obvs) and a large cola, but what are the movies that will have cinephiles on the edge of their seats this April?

Here are five flicks showing right now.

Godzilla v Kong

It’s time to unwind and go and enjoy some mindless destruction between an enormous lizard and giant ape. Godzilla v Kong is the fourth instalment in Legendary’s Monsterverse, and sees the old foes put their differences aside to join claws and fists to stop Mechagodzilla, a mechanical version of Godzilla. Don’t worry if you haven’t caught a glimpse of the originals as this show is more about gratuitous smashing and bashing than intricate plot lines.

Maya The Bee 3: The Golden Orb

Little bees are supposed to be busy, and when Maya and Willy can’t stand the boredom of winter hibernation, they escape the hive and are entrusted with a top secret mission by a stranger they save from peril. Bundles of fun and lots of twists and turns, this feel-good movie will have movie-goers buzzing on their trip home.

Mortal Kombat

It’s a tough challenge to tear avid gamers away from the small screen but this movie adaptation of the console classic might be the crowbar to do it. Washed-up MMA fighter Cole Young is being hunted down by Sub-Zero of the Lin-Kuai assassins. Fearing for his family’s safety, Young seeks out the protectors of the Earthrealm who do battle with forces of the Outworld. Find out if Young can achieve flawless victory.

Nobody

Couldn’t get enough of the Taken series? Nobody follows Hutch Mansell, a seemingly ordinary man, who gets robbed of $20 and an old watch, by two thieves who break into his suburban home. With friends, colleagues and family questioning why he didn’t defend himself, a long-bubbling rage is unleashed in a hail of fists, bullets and explosions. Who knew such a nobody could have such a particular set of skills?

SAS: Red Notice

Wait a minute is that Ruby Rose? Yes, yes it is and she has swapped the orange overhauls for a sleek, black kit as leader of a group of heavily armed war criminals who have hijacked a train in the Channel Tunnel. Demanding half a billion pounds, Rose and her accomplices threaten to release the British governments darkest secrets and blow up the tunnel. But little do they know, special-forces operator Tom Buckingham is a passenger, and you can imagine the chaos that ensues.
