There Is No Year

Blake Butler’s horror novel is out now

Blake Butler

Harper Perennial
Blake Butler’s latest tome is a challenging, Dalí-esque spin on the horror genre. Focusing on an unnamed family, you’re not sure if what you’re reading is supposed to be fantasy or just a warped reality: the house shifts, the mother begins obsessively mowing the lawn and finds an egg with mysterious powers. The father discovers a room full of hair and a mailbox stuffed with caterpillars, and forgets how to get home from work. The son talks to strangers on his phone, and receives a package containing photos of dead celebrities. Eerie but engaging.
