Emirates makes passenger COVID-19 documents digital

If you’ve had a COVID-19 test in Dubai you won’t need to show a physical copy of the result

If you’re based in the UAE and have taken a PCR test in Dubai, you won’t need to present a physical COVID-19 test result when checking in to fly with Emirates – as it will all be stored digitally.

Dubai has become one of the first cities in the world to start bringing in full digital verification of traveller medical records, relating to COVID-19 testing and vaccination.

The Dubai-based airline says that this “pioneering move” will “significantly ease travel procedures, reduce wait times and lead to enhanced efficiency and convenience for travellers”.

Emirates and Dubai Healthy Authority are rolling out the system now.

Meanwhile, if you’ve had a COVID-19 vaccination at a DHA health centre in Dubai, both this and your test result can be synchronised digitally during check in.

The COVID-19 information will then be matched with the entry requirements for the destination you’re travelling t, as you’re checking in.

The new, streamlined process will mean departing from Dubai International Airport will be faster.

If your PCR test or vaccinations are done outside of Dubai, physical copies of the documents will be needed at check-in – plus some destinations need travellers to carry these too, so check before you fly.

Emirates has stressed that only the information specifically related to the COVID-19 entry requirements of the passengers destination will be accessed, and once it is processed the records will be discarded from the Emirates systems.
