We’re not short of areas of outstanding natural beauty in the UAE, but there’s a new viral destination that’s hitting the sweet (or should that be salty?) spot with Instagrammers right now.
Found alongside the Al Ain highway, close to Al Bihouth, the Al Wathba Long Salt Lake has recently exploded in popularity, garnering social media fame for its crystal clear waters and mushroom-like stacks of sodium chloride.
The distinctive salt formations are stable enough for visitors to hop across, making for ridiculously snaptastic frames for the ’gram.
And with less compacted grains lining the water’s edge, some photo ops even give off a snowy aesthetic – a major novelty in this part of the world but one we can get right behind.
You’ll find the beauty spot at co-ordinates 24.1589° N, 54.5025° E. Parking is free and you can even pitch up with a barbecue – just be sure to take everything home with you when heading home.
The trench may be manmade, but the pillars of salt are all work of Mother Nature.
The theory goes that they existed beneath the sand and rock prior to being uncovered, as formations such as this would take millions of years to form.
It’s mightily close to the site of the famed Fossil Dunes, meaning a single road trip can generate enough content to keep the jaws of your followers rooted to the floor for the foreseeable.
