5 to try: Big winners

Time Out revisits some favourite restaurants and remembers why the are so impressive

Chamas (Best Americas): Simply the funnest restaurant in town, Chamas Brazilian charcuterie-style dining means that the waiters will continue to serve you deliciously marinated meat until you beg them to stop. The bar upstairs is also a great place for an atmospheric drink.
InterContinental Abu Dhabi (02 666 6888).

Finz (Best Seafood, Best Romantic): The 2006 and 2007’ ‘Best Restaurant’ winner walked away with two titles in 2008. Pearls and Caviar will offer it a serious challenge on the seafood front in 2009, but for the moment, this still serves the best fishy fare in the capital.
Beach Rotana Abu Dhabi (02 697 9000).

The One Café (Best Café): While The One in Dubai has had a menu overhaul, the Abu Dhabi version has retained its tried and tested selection. A winner by a long way, there really is little in the capital to match it.
Located next to the BMW building (02 681 6500).

Vasco’s (Best International): It’s not cheap but its service is sunny, enthusiastic, informed and efficient, and the large decking area facing the water is permanently packed and buzzing. A great atmosphere and an assured, if diverse, menu makes this a winner.
Hiltonia Beach Club (02 681 1900).

Mezzaluna (Best Italian): Traditional Italian food, bordering on the lavish, is Mezzaluna’s charm. Its mains are arty, but wholesome, and it has the ability to pull off a bit of flair without seeming boastful.
Emirates Palace (02 690 7999).
