Out to sea

We take a look around the Abu Dhabi Yacht Show at the poshest boats in town. We were so impressed

Edmiston – Wally Power 118

3/5
From $25 million (Dhs92 million)

Looks like…
The evil stealth boat in Tomorrow Never Dies.

How big?
At 36 metres, it isn’t the biggest boy on the quayside, but sleeps six in its three double cabins. More than enough room for a party on the open seas.

How fast?
Too fast. This boisterous, turtle-bothering upstart is the sailing equivalent of a kick to the face. With a top speed of 70 knots, the Wally Power is known for travelling fast, partying and chewing gum… and it’s all out of gum!

The extras…
The forward deck can transform into an open-air gym, so everyone can see you pump your golden pecs aboard your $25 million yacht. Nice!

Time Out says…
Gloriously obnoxious, but surely owning a yacht called Wally Power is just asking for trouble.

4Yacht Arabia – Lady Lauren

5/5
From $17million (Dhs62million)

Looks like…
The QE2 on steroids

How big?
It’s a monster. With 88.5 metres to play with, you can comfortably sleep 40 guests onboard. It’s so big, it even has private, secluded areas and room for conferencing facilities.

How fast?
Big and slow. A top speed of 16 knots makes it a heavyweight cruiser. In sailing terms, its something of an old-fashioned ‘gin palace’ – all show and no go.

The extras…
Where do you start? The show-model has its own beauty salon, as well as a conference suite and library. There are even plans to add an open-air restaurant, so there’s plenty of space to customise.

Time Out says…
Like a heavyweight boxer dressed in Versace, Lady Lauren packs a glamourous punch.

Gulf Craft Inc. – Majesty 121

2/5
From $11million (Dhs40 million)

Looks like…
We’re gonna need a bigger boat

How big?
At a steady 36 metres, the standard five cabin layout accommodates ten guests plus crew, but it’s pretty spacious.

How fast?
The slowest of the smaller super yachts, with a max speed of 24 knots, in a straight drag race with the similarly sized Wally Power, it’s going to look foolish, but in a simple beauty contest, it wins hands down.

The extras…
The potential for installing a Jacuzzi and a built-in bar on the fly bridge, coupled with some rather natty neon lighting, adds that bit of glamour.

Time Out says…
Unless you’re going to gold-plate the steering wheel, there just isn’t enough bling to get us out of our bunk.

Benetti – Ambrosia III

4/5
Not for sale (We don’t blame them)

Looks like…
The food of the Gods, times three

How big?
We’re talking six stories of luxury yacht, spread across 65 metres of floating palace. We’ve seen this style decked out in an art deco interior by French designer Francois Zuretti (with hand-painted murals). That’ll have them drooling on their Jimmy Choo deck shoes.

How fast?
Not exactly light on its feet, this is another plodder (max 15 knots); but honestly: where else would you rather be?

The extras…
The option of one of the most expensive entertainment and communication systems ever installed on a yacht makes this a potential floating electronic heaven.

Time Out says…
We didn’t spend millions just to sit inside watching reruns of House, but we just can’t resist those murals.

Neorion – Alysia

5/5
€90 million (Dhs423 million)

Looks like…
Emirate’s Palace with a hull.

How big?
One of the world’s biggest, most expensive charter yachts; Alysia is 85 metres of sun-kissed luxury. The 36 guests are looked after by 34 crew, and it not only has two saloons (the upper and main saloon), but its very own library/cinema.

How fast?
Slow and steady… But when you’ve got 85 metres of luxury yacht, you don’t sweat the stats.

The extras…
The helipad converts into a circular sunbathing terrace, and guests can’t fail to be impressed by the lower deck treatment room.

Time Out says…
We’ll meet you in the upper saloon.
