Gamers, assemble: new games to play this month

Here’s what you need to be playing

Summer is in full swing and while you might be taking the foot off the pedal and embracing the chilled-out vibes, the increase in temperature is driving many of us indoors to seek refuge under the air-conditioning.

For gamers, June is the perfect month to spend quality time with their consoles without the pressure or judgement of having to escape the living room and socialise.

And while at Time Out we would rarely advocate staying in, should the mood take hold to do so, then these are the five games you should spend time tackling this June.

The Zapper

Destroy All Humans!
Nope, we haven’t lost our minds or got out of the wrong side of the bed. Here, gamers aboard an alien spaceship visit a 1950s Earth with one objective – destroy all humans. Having been released in 2020 for the PlayStation and Xbox, the game has now been re-adapted for the Nintendo Switch meaning players can zap, blow up and, well, destroy humans from, say, their favourite sports bar,
if they don’t fancy killing from the couch.
Estimated release date: June 25.

The NERD

Dungeons and Dragons: Dark Alliance
Our inner nerds are bursting with excitement for the release of the third instalment of the video gaming series based on the uber-popular board game. You and three mates will play as Drizzt Do’Urden, Catti-Brie, Brueor Battlehammer and Wulfgar and battle against frost giants, dragons and other scary creatures across the barren and unforgiving Icewind Dale. It is time for you to set forth to become a dungeon master.
Estimated release date: June 22.

The Legend

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade
June really is a belter. Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade will see the 2020 remake of the epic 1997 classic upgraded to another level with the introduction of the Yuffie episode – a Wutai ninja who must steal the Ultima materia from megacorporation Shinra.
The 2020 edition sold more than 3.5 million copies within three days so you might have to use all your stealth moves to bag yourself a physical copy.
Estimated release date: June 10.

The Crazy Golfer

Mario Golf: Super Rush
The little man with the moustache and red cap is swapping the go kart and blue dungarees for a golf bag and a pair of slick chinos in the seventh edition of Mario Golf. And as you can imagine this is no ordinary round of 18 holes with The R&A rulebook thrown out the window in favour of speed golf pitting mates against each other to see who can get the ball in the hole in the least amount of time, not the least shots taken (obvs).
Estimated release date: June 25.

The terror

Scarlet Nexus
With graphics that will be pleasing to the eyes of anime fans, this game will thrill, confuse and excite in equal measure (you wouldn’t want it to be simple would you?). Players control Yuito Sumeragi and Kasane Randall who use their ability of psychokinesis to do battle with mindless monsters in order to protect the New Himuka. Challenging and a little bit scary, you might want to play this during the daytime rather than at night.
Estimated release date: June 25.
