6 new films releasing this weekend in the UAE

It’s time for you to head over to the nearest cinema, because there is a grand total of six new films releasing this weekend, and there’s something for everyone.

Whether you’re a movie buff or simply want to have something fun to do this weekend, you should definitely check out this star-studded list.

Fire

If you have pyrophobia you might want to miss this scorching movie that’s coming to UAE cinemas. Fire is releasing Thursday June 24, and is a heroic story about firefighters and rescuers of the Aerial Forest Protection Service and the Ministry of Emergency Situations. When a group of people become stranded amidst a forest fire, the firefighters become their only hope. But will they be able to resist the elements and get out alive? This action-packed film stars Constantin Kaben and Ian Yanks. The film is rated PG13.


Songbird

It’s 2024 and a pandemic is ravaging the world and its cities… is it just us, or does this plot sound a little familiar? While the world is falling apart, a handful of people navigate the obstacles that are hindering society: disease, martial law, quarantine and vigilantes. The film was directed by Adam Mason, who wrote the screenplay with Simon Boyes, and is being produced by Michael Bay, Adam Goodman, Andrew Sugerman, and Eben Davidson. The film is rated PG15.


Werewolves Within

Werewolves Within is a comedy-horror film based on a video game of the same name, where werewolves attack a small town. Newly-arrived forest ranger Finn and postal worker Cecily have to keep the peace and solve the mystery of who, or what, has been attacking the town. Directed by Josh Ruben, written by Mishna Wolff, and starring Sam Richardson, Milana Vayntrub, and George Basil, this movie toes the line between funny, scary and gory for some old fashioned fun. The film is rated PG13.


Held

Held is a horror film that stars Jill Awbrey, Bart Johnson, Travis Cluff. In the movie, a married couple decides to take a vacation at an isolated rental, and finds themselves trapped in a house of horrors that holds them hostage and commands their every move. Directed by Travis Cluff and Chris Lofing and written by Jill Awbrey, this thriller seems likely to give us a good scare. The film is rated 18+


Sons of Philadelphia

In the city of brotherly love, eight-year-old Peter Flood loses his little sister to reckless driving. When his father finds revenge, the wounds last for generations. Thirty years later, as Peter tries to distance himself from the criminal family business, his cousin becomes more powerful and drags both men into a cycle of violence. Sons of Philadelphia stars Matthias Schoenaerts, Joel Kinnaman and Maika Monroe. It was directed and written by Jeremie Guez and is rated PG15.


Spare Parts

Are you looking for a horror film that’s equal parts scary and strange? Spare Parts is a horror movie about an all-girl punk band who find themselves kidnapped with some of their limbs removed and replaced with crude weaponry. They are forced to fight as gladiators in a sadistic town for one thing: their freedom. This film was directed by Andrew Thomas Hunt and is rated 18+.
