Catch an exhilarating race at Al Tallah Camel Race Course

Think camel racing is a dated sport? Think again. While it may be a traditional Bedouin past-time, the Al Tallah Camel Race Course has added some technological advancements to sport, and that comes in the shape of remote-controlled robotic jockeys. You can catch the melding of tech and beast early morning on Fridays and Saturdays, while the annual Camel Festival (held in February) adds heritage activities and even a camel beauty pageant to the racing schedule. One of the wackiest things to do in Ajman.

Hike up to Masfout for a magnificent view

Crave the kind of deep burn only a trek across beautifully rugged terrain can stoke? An ascension to the landlocked enclave of Masfout promises just that and more for hikers who love the feel of rocks under their boots – and hopefully no pebbles in them. Settled in stone some 90-minute spin from Ajman city, the trail throws up vistas of untameable rock formations, historic military forts and castles and wadis that help sustain the local eco-system. Feet can’t take another step? The flatter trails are fit for mountain biking, so bring your wheels and make the most of the mountain breeze. Find it by following the Sharjah-Kalba Road to Masfout.

Immerse yourself in culture at Al Jarah Cultural Centre

The UAE’s rich history can be seen in many facets of daily life, but to really drill down into this country’s vibrant tapestry, it’s well worth dropping in at its many museums and galleries. The Al Jarah Cultural Centre is the jumping off point for surveyors of all things traditional in Ajman, and guests can expect a warm welcome as they are guided through the history of the emirate.

Kayak through the lush surrounds of the Al Zorah Nature Reserve

Wave hello to one of the best things to do in Ajman. This leisurely paddle around the waters of the Al Zorah Nature Reserve brings visitors up close and personal with an abundance of bird and marine life in an eco-conscious way. The lush reserve comprises a series of channels, ensuring calm waters for even the most inexperienced of paddlers.

Laze about on one of Ajman’s crisp white beaches

Okay, the emirate is not unique in its ownership of stunning, sandy beaches, but a day by the ocean is still one of the best things to do in Ajman. While a string of luxe hotels occupy much of the pristine shoreline, the public beach close to the city centre is not without its own allure, and a day lazing under the sun (always factor 50) is hard to resist. And don’t get us started on that crystal H20.

Lock into luxury at the Ajman Saray, A Luxury Collection Resort

Speaking of luxe hotels, one of the best things to do in Ajman is book yourself a room at the Ajman Saray, A Luxury Collection Resort. Boasting the popular and oh-so-muscle-melting GOCO spa, this hotel has four restaurants and two bars to make sure smiles stay on the face of guests from check-in to check-out.

Make a splash at Funtastico

Funtastico is the kind of place that makes you wish you were a kid again. Inflatable slides set in pools of cool water make for the perfect arena for tykes to burn off their energy before bed. The only issue for Mum and Dad will be resisting climbing in themselves. Canonball!

Marvel at the work of shipbuilders at the Ajman Dhow Building Yard

The UAE’s maritime history is well documented, but Ajman’s Dhow Building Yard holds a special place among all that talk. The largest facility of its kind on the planet, be sure to stop by to learn how the boats are made seaworthy, and witness fast-hand the level of craftsmanship required to make the iconic vessels float. If you’re asking us, an unmissable thing to do in Ajman on your next visit.

Ogle the tasty eats on the menu at Seascape Restaurant

If it’s fruits of the sea you seek, angle yourself around the plates at Seascape Restaurant. Given the eatery’s proximity to the Corniche – you’ll find it tucked away in the Wyndham Garedn Ajman hotel – it’s little surprise the menu here is sea-centric. Catch of the day is served to your liking either steamed, oven-baked, tagine-style, charcoal grilled, deep fried or sautéed. One bite and you’ll be hooked.

Plumb the depths with Majellan Centre for Sport and Diving

You’ve not seen Ajman until you’re 10 metres below the swash. And that’s because some of the emirate’s most impressive scenery is to be found at the bottom of the sea. With everything from vibrant coral reefs to turtles bobbing by and schools of shimmering fish in every direction, we’re confident your head will need to be on a swivel to take it all in.

Swing by Al Zorah Golf Club for a round of 18

One of the best things to do in Ajman – if you have the skill, grace and patience for it – is a round of 18 at Al Zorah Golf Club. The lawns are impeccable, and it’d be hard to feel anything but love for the course even if you hook your last ball in to the lake. With two restaurants to refuel at pre and post tee time, it’s a complete day out when the call of the pin becomes too much to resist.

Unearth the past at Mowaihat archeology site

To know where we’re going, we must first understand where we’ve come from (or something like that). The Mowaihat archaeological site on the fringe of Ajman city is one of the most important cultural and historical points of note in the emirate, and since its discovery and subsequent excavation in 1986, thousands of artefacts have been recovered. Copper implements, painted Umm al-Nar ceramic vessels and are best viewed at Ajman Musuem where they are on display.

Walk into an Indian feast at Bukhara

A day ticking off all the best things to do in Ajman is best topped with a big old plate of Indian delights from Bukhara. Billed as a culinary passage to northern India, the traditional menu features the likes of tandooris, paneers, and enough spices to have you dreaming of New Dehli. Come hungry, leave stuffed.

Wander through time at Ajman Museum

We’ve mentioned it already, and with a fascinating collection of artefacts housed in building that was once a military fort, Ajman Museum is the jewel in the emirate’s cultural crown. The site was occupied by the ruler of the emirate until as recently as 1970, before being converted into the centre of education it is known as today. One of the most talked about displays is that of an excavated cemetery from Muwaihat, featuring pottery and funeral jewellery dating back as far as 3000 BC. Meanwhile, an entire section dedicated to the pearl trade pays homage to a way of life that helped mould the entire region.
