How to eat like royalty at Time Out Market Dubai

Here’s what the VVVIPs are ordering at the Souk Al Bahar showstopper

What do you think the real VVVIPs like to feast on? Caviar? Foie gras? Oysters?

Rumour (aka Instagram stories) has it that a certain royal visited Time Out Market Dubai this weekend for a bite to eat, and we’ve got the lowdown on what dishes you need to order to mirror the experience.

So, want to eat like royalty at Time Out Market Dubai? Here are the dishes you need to get your chops around.

Burrata butter chicken from Masti

Love burrata (because let’s face it, who in Dubai doesn’t)? Love butter chicken? Say hello to Masti’s burrata butter chicken. It’s as decadent as it sounds – charcoal-roasted chicken tikka slathered in a rich and creamy makhani sauce and topped with equally rich and creamy burrata. A humble curry this is not.

Cheeseburger from Pickl

Pickl serves up the best patties in town. Fact. But what would a VIP royal choose from its menu of banging burgers? The cheeseburger, that’s what. Piled with homemade pickles and lashings of Pickl’s spectacular secret sauce and of course, cheese, all packed in a soft, squidgy potato bun, as far as burgers go, this beaut is fit for a prince (literally).

Chicken katsu sando from Reif

The supreme sandos are Reif are all drool-worthy but we’re here to talk about the royal pick of the bunch – the chicken katsu sando. Deep-fried chicken breast topped with yuzu kosho mayonnaise and umeboshi jam between toasted slices of bread, cut into quarters – you’ll be clucking about it for weeks to come.

Hell’s Kitchen pizza from Pitfire

Famed for its signature tasty crushed tomato sauce, outrageous pizza base and beautifully blistered crusts, all of Pitfire’s pizzas are sure-fire winners but it’s the tongue-tingling Hell’s Kitchen that gets the royal seal of approval. A hot and hearty combo of Pitfire’s signature cheese blend, mushrooms, black olives, jalapeños, chilli flakes and pepperoni, this pie is guaranteed to help blow the cobwebs away.

Barbecue tray from Local Fire

This meaty platter from Local Fire is genuinely fire and it’s one you’ll need an entourage for (it’s designed for four to share – if you can, that is). Priced at Dhs375 for the large platter, carnivores can get stuck into 150g of Local Fire’s signature brisket, 150g of pastrami, one 450g bone-in rib, 100g of beef chorizo, plus six 150g sides (rice, bean salad, slaw, beetroot salad, potato salad, and mac ’n’ cheese), all accompanied by barbecue cream sauce, barbecue plum sauce, house mustard, garlic mayonnaise, pickles, pickled onions, two pieces of sourdough and two potato buns. Now, where did we put our stretchy pants?

Margherita pizza from Pitfire

Can’t get enough of Pitfire’s New York-meets-Neapolitan-style pizzas? Neither can the royals. Keep it classic with the margherita – tomato base topped with creamy bocconcini, fresh basil leaves, and a generous glug of olive oil. So simple, so good, so moreish and so worth a visit to the Market for.

New-style chicken biryani from Masti

Biryani, just not as you know it. Masti is famed for its knockout flavour-packed, personality-packed fusion dishes and its new-style chicken biryani is no different. Tender chunks of chicken, slow-cooked long grain, a tangy homemade preserve, topped with crispy kale and served with a side of cooling raita – if it’s good enough for royalty…

Wagyu katsu sando from BB Social Dining

A firm fave among Time Out Market Dubai regulars – and royals – BB Social Dining’s wagyu katsu sando (panko-crusted wagyu tenderloin sandwiched in between toasted brioche and coated with a zingy, sweet and utterly indulgent mustard tonkasu sauce) is nothing short of glorious and dare we say, one of the best dishes you can enjoy at the market?
