On Tuesday, the Statistical Yearbook of Abu Dhabi 2010 was released with 350 new figures about life in the emirates.
Interesting results included:
– A rise in Abu Dhabi’s population by 4.5 per cent to 1.64 million, based on underlying trends and sample surveys.
– A rise in Emiratis under 15 – now making up 40 per cent of the total population of nationals in Abu Dhabi.
-The Emirati population in the capital is estimated at 25 per cent of the total (while in Dubai its 8 per cent, according to recent research).
-There are 2.3 expat men to every expat woman in Abu Dhabi.
-The expat birth rate declined from 18.1 per 1,000 population in 2008, to 17.7 in 2009.
– Accidents increased by 4.4 per cent to 3,221 in 2009, although the number of deaths dropped from 376 in 2008 to 339 last year.
However, the Dubai School of Government has stated that it still feels there is a lack of statistics and research in the GCC compared to elsewhere in the world, and that more studies like that of the Statistical Yearbook of Abu Dhabi are essential.
