Monthly music festival to kick Expo 2020 Dubai into top gear

Expect never-before-heard collabs

The city is rocking ahead of Expo 2020 Dubai, and that rhythm and groove will only continue after the world fair officially gets underway on Thursday October 1.

That’s because a monthly festival of music, dance and culture is set to descend on the site of the world’s greatest show until the curtain comes down on Expo 2020 at the end of March next year.

Focused on six distinct musical roots, each edition of the festival will showcase fusions between artists of diverse backgrounds, from the island influences of Hawaii, the Philippines and the Caribbean to the tribal rhythms of Tanzania and Bangladesh.

From spoken word to visual performances, the series will be a premiere attraction under the lights of the Jubilee Stage.

Already on the bill are Indian dream-pop duo Parekh & Singh; one-man-band loop specialist and X Factor Australia finalist Jaymie Deville; the acoustic guitar melodies and soulful vocals of UAE-based singer songwriter Rony Sarkis; UAE-based Arab band As Per Casper, who create full-bodied, symphonic pieces; and NOON, a UAE-based trio known for funk grooves, African and Indian percussive rhythms and electronic effects.

Held over three days (Thursday, Friday and Saturday), the eight-hour festival will start at 4pm.

Additionally, every Thursday and Friday night from 10.30pm to 1am on the Jubilee Stage, Late Nights @ Expo will connect artists and people from across the world, breaking barriers between musical styles, generations and cultures.

The show offers a different experience every weekend, and is promising ‘never-before-seen collaborations’.

Performers include Syrian music composer, songwriter, and producer Iyad Rimawi along with his orchestra performing his melodic and touching scores with their unique fusion of oriental and classical elements; Jordanian singer-songwriter Dina Stars; funk-rock band Carl & The Reda Mafia; Chilean musician, songwriter and singer Sergio Catalan; Serbian singer-songwriter Aleksandra Krstic; Jaye & Foe, a six-piece multi-instrumentalist Dubai-based band known for their brassy, jazzy tinged folk sounds with elements of reggae, ska and gypsy rhythms; and Colombian Latin-pop singer Fatiniza.
