Love movies? Love food? We have some seriously exciting news for you.
If you’re a fan of Japanese food, you’ll likely have visited top restaurant Akira Back on the Palm. The eponymous restaurant of the Las Vegas chef has been a hit since opening a couple of years back – and now you’re about to see a lot more of his dishes here in the UAE. Especially if you’re a movie-lover.
Akira Back has teamed up with the UAE’s VOX Cinemas for THEATRE, so when you head to watch the latest release later this month, you can dine in style.
Launching this September, expect a modern Japanese menu that includes Back’s signature dishes as well as special dishes that are exclusive to VOX Cinemas.
You can dine in a private lounge area ahead or after your movie, or have your food delivered directly to your cinema seat while you watch the film. THEATRE also boasts reclining leather seats, plush blankets and pillows and cutting-edge audiovisual technology to offer an ultra-cool cinema-going experience.
THEATRE will be available at cinemas in Mall of the Emirates, City Centre Mirdif and Nakheel Mall in Dubai and Al Jimi Mall, Nation Towers, The Galleria Al Maryah Island and Yas Mall in Abu Dhabi – so there’s plenty of chances to check it out.

The special menu curated by Back will be available in UAE cinemas later this month, while it will also be heading to cinemas in Bahrain, Qatar and Kuwait later this year.
Akira Back – who was born in Korea and raised in Colorado – has 16 restaurants across the globe including in Beverly Hills, San Diego, Seychelles North Island, Toronto, Singapore and his Michelin-starred Dosa in Seoul, with more to come.
Best-known for his Asian dishes with US flair, the former pro-snowboarder-turned-chef can’t wait to be a household name in UAE cinemas, too.

THEATRE by VOX was launched in 2015, with a menu from late great chef Gary Rhodes, and it’s become a super-popular way to watch films in luxe style ever since.
“THEATRE has revolutionised the luxury cinema experience and I’m extremely proud to join forces with VOX Cinemas given our shared commitment to innovation,” said Back.
“Together we believe that F&B is a complementary component of going to the movies and we have designed a menu that is sure to appeal to the most discerning guests and movie-lovers.”
