UAE announces two new types of visas

What we know about Green Visas and Freelance Visas so far

Two new types of visa aim to make living and working in the UAE more flexible, the country’s leadership have announced.

Fifty brand-new projects to further solidify the UAE’s status as a ceiling-shattering nation will be revealed this week – but some exciting changes have already been announced.

Among them is the Green Visa, which will be granted to high achievers, investors, businesspeople, exceptional students and experts.

Those who qualify can sponsor a child up to the age of 25, and the visa can also be used to sponsor parents.

After the Green Visa expires, holders will have between 90 and 180 days to renew their documents, as opposed to the traditional 30-day window.

Green Visas won’t be linked to employment, so status would be unaffected if the holder were to lose their job.

It follows on from changes to legislation around expired visas introduced to help people stay in the country at the height of the pandemic.

Freelance Visas were also announced to assist people who are working independently.

At a press conference at Jumeirah Emirates Towers on Sunday September 5, leading government figures announced ten principles on which the next five decades in the UAE will be built.

The UAE will mark its 50th jubilee this year, and previously declared a major Year of the 50th cultural campaign that stretches across the nation.

The primary pillar centred on the strengthening of the union, with the other nine covering everything form foreign policy to digital, technical and scientific excellence to good-neighbourliness.
