Allah-Las album review

Allah-Las

3/5
Apparently, the 1960s were pretty great – all free love, long hair and flares. So it’s understandable that some people, like new LA band Allah-Las, are desperate to drag us back to the Summer of Love. Their debut album is full of garage rockin’ jams about a woman called ‘Baby’ and grooves that instantly recall The Byrds and Them – making it hard to believe it was actually recorded in 2012.

Despite that, it’s a tough record to dislike, filled with shiny pop nuggets. But Allah-Las just play it close to the bone, credibility-wise. Someone needs to tell them: you can shimmy and shake all you want, but it won’t bring the ’60s back.
