BMW launches Gran Turismo in Middle East…

German carmaker BMW launched its Gran Turismo car in the Gulf on Monday, with the first model unveiled at a Bahrain-based dealership.

The car combines features of a sedan, with the functionality of an SUV and the elements of a grand touring car.

“The Gran Turismo is the only vehicle of its kind in the market right now,” Zayed Al Zayani, managing director of Euro Motors showroom, told the Gulf Daily News.

“We are confident it will strengthen BMW’s position in the luxury performance class and our customers can be assured of a truly exceptional offering backed by excellent customer service.”

The car, which has a top speed of 250kmph and can accelerate from 0-100kmph in 6.3 seconds, has been well received in Europe where it has been available for sometime. The top of the range 550i model can reach 0-100kmph in 5.5 seconds.

James Crichton, sales and marketing director of BMW Group Middle East, said prior to the launch: “We have five new models to launch in the Middle East during the first five months of the year: two ActiveHybrids, the new 5 Series, Gran Turismo and X1.

“The Gran Turismo and X1 have already been well received in Europe, and with the 5 Series being a strong seller, we are confident that these new models will have a positive affect on 2010 sales and our brands will maintain their strength in the region.”
