The promise
Situated in the Al Wahda Mall extension, Vintage Men’s Spa opened its well-manicured doors in February this year. As one of the newest players on the men’s grooming scene in the city, they offer everything from hair and nail services through to massages and various shaving treatments. However, we were there to try out their Vintage Signature Facial.
Step-by-step
We’re greeted by our skin specialist Akhtar who offers us a refreshment while the treatment room is prepared. Once inside the room we rest upon the treatment table and are covered with towels to protect our clothing. Akhtar begins the process by cleansing our skin using Dermalogica products.
This is designed to remove whatever creams or moisturisers we’ve already used that day before he scrubs off the dead skin cells. Akhtar then suggests a new shaving routine because he can tell how sensitive our skin is and that it’s largely down to a poor shaving technique. He concentrates on the zones around our nose, cheeks, neck and forehead before applying a steam treatment to tone the skin. He also advises us to drink lots of water throughout the day because it will assist our skin in looking healthy. After a soothing facial massage a gel face pack is applied and we’re left alone to relax for a few minutes. After washing off the face pack some sun protection is applied and we’re given another shoulder and neck massage.
The results
Our skin is clearly refreshed and the blackheads we’d previously suffered from around our nose have been banished. Although the skin was a tad sensitive it looked a lot fresher than it has done in years.
Pros
The spa itself is quite small but that’s a huge benefit especially for men who don’t feel comfortable going to such an establishment. It’s modern, welcoming and perfect if you want to stop off while your other half does some shopping around the mall.
Cons
No real complaints apart from the fact the whole facial takes around 60 minutes to complete. Make sure you have the time to spare.
