Aquarium springs a leak and sparks Dubai Mall evacuation…

The aquarium at Dubai Mall is leaking and part of the mall has been evacuated.

An eyewitness said that the incident occured at around 12.30pm, at the H&M side of the mall. She said: “water started coming out in great volumes from the tank and people started running”.

Police and fire services are attending the scene, and an official said “there is a problem and we are evacuating part of the mall”. Corridors have been shut on three levels of the mall.

The aquarium at Dubai Mall boasts one of the largest tanks in the world, which has the capacity to hold 10 million litres of water. The front viewing glass is the world’s largest aquarium window, and according to the Dubai Mall website the tank homes more than 33,000 living animals, representing more than 85 species including over 400 sharks and rays combined.
