What’s so special about the Al Noor School?
It just happens to be one of the causes we’ve chosen to support. When we visited the school, we recognised a need for major support. And one of the things that strike you as you walk into the facilities and tour around, is that even though the school at the moment is operating in a constrained environment, the warmth, love and affection with which the children are managed is overwhelming.
Which is especially important in this instance…
This is supremely important, because it’s for children with special needs. And this school runs independently, without any government support, and it depends solely on donations provided by the community. The main aim of the school is to provide comprehensive educational, therapeutic, self-help, social and vocational skills to mentally and physically challenged children.
That’s quite a bit of money you’re aiming to raise; what’s the plan?
The campaign is to raise Dhs150,000 in order to purchase a 32-seat mini bus for the Al Noor School. The aim is to raise this money in two ways: first, by displaying handicrafts made specially by the children of Al Noor in our upper lobby area. These handicrafts are for sale to anyone visiting Crowne Plaza Abu Dhabi, and absolutely all proceeds go towards the bus.
And the second?
Secondly, we’ve placed donation boxes all around the hotel, so that guests can drop in their donations whenever they see fit. We ourselves will be providing plenty of initiative and conducting many fund raising activities as we go through the year, especially during the month of Ramadan.
Why a bus though?
The Al Noor School has a wish list, made for people who would rather not donate in cash. These people can contribute by buying an item off this wish list and then donating it to the school. We took a look at the list and opted for the 32-seat mini bus.
Well it’s certainly a worthy cause; do you think you’ll actually hit the mark?
Most definitely! We are absolutely positive that with all the combined efforts we shall exceed our target.
