Abu Dhabi to host global Miss India pageant

Expat beauty contest taking place at Emirates Palace this weekend

Abu Dhabi is getting ready for an influx of subcontinental beauty queens when it hosts the Miss India Worldwide 2011 event.
The pageant, which will mark the event’s debut in the Middle East, will see some 30 finalists will compete in five days of judging, with the finals and crowing ceremony taking place at the Emirates Palace this Saturday.
John Matthe, managing director of event organiser Emirates Vision Evene, said: ‘It will be very much in line with UAE’s inimitable style of offering only the very best. We envisage the event to be heavy on star power as Bollywood stars are being lined up to judge the event.’
Among the VIP guests attending will be Sushmita Sen, the first Indian to win the title of Miss Universe.

The contest is made up of Indian expats who have won Miss India Worldwide competitions in their country of residence. Expats from the UAE and other Gulf contests are represented in the show.
Each entrant will be tutored in grooming, diction and elocution with the overall winner receiving a prize package, including $9,000 in cash and a number of annual modeling contracts.

Tickets for adults cost from Dhs125-Dhs600 and are available at www.timeouttickets.com
