When Saints Go Machine

Scandinavian outfit with more synth-pop

Konkylie
3/5

Scandinavia’s major export is officially glacial electronica. Two albums in, When Saints Go Machine have done little to modify the region’s industrial template. Their forte is a mid-pace wisp of slightly vocal synth-pop, resembling a more orchestral version of Junior Boys. Happily, though, it works. Despite the detachment between Nicolas Vonsild’s Antony Heggarty-esque keening and the burbles and boops of his supporting machinery, there’s a warmth to the album that underscores its humanity.
