2,000 more paid for parking spaces in Abu Dhabi…

A new phase of Abu Dhabi Department of Transport’s Mawaqif paid parking services will start on Sunday with more than 2,000 spaces being added to the scheme.

The paid-for zones are being added in the area between Corniche Road, East Road and Khalifa Street, with a total of 1,436 parking bays and 723 underground parking bays.

This step is part of the Mawaqif 2010 plan, revealed earlier this year, aiming to manage car parking facilities and spaces in Abu Dhabi, news agency WAM reported.

Paid parking will be enforced from 8am to 9pm, Saturdays to Thursdays, at a rate of three dirhams per hour for premium parking with a maximum stay of four hours, and two dirhams per hour or 15 dirhams per day for standard parking.

Najib Al Zarooni, general manager of Parking at the Department of Transport said: “Department of Transport is introducing additional services and have issued tenders for the provision of automated car parking facilities car parking structures in a number of areas, with the aim of providing comprehensive and sustainable solutions to address the growing needs for parking.”

Residents in the area can apply for resident permits which allow them to park in any available standard parking bay in the area where they live

Annual fees for the resident permits are AED800 for the first vehicle, and AED1,200 for the second vehicle.
