UAE teens spend three times more on clothes…

UAE teens spend three times as much as their global peers on clothes and apparel, according to the results of a new survey of the opinions and habits of teenagers in the region.

The first ever Global Teen Insights Programme-MENA edition 2010, which was carried out by research firms AMRB and TRU found that UAE teens spend an average of $71 on clothing and apparel in a month.

This was more than three times the global average, which was found to be $21. The survey also found that more than half of teen in the Middle East and North Africa plan to spend more in 2010, which is higher than the global average of 40 percent.

The results also highlighted that 28 percent of Emirati teens own smart phones, compared to eleven percent of global teens; Pepsi and Adidas are the two most popular brands and Emirati teens spend $25 a month on cosmetics, compared to $6 globally.

The study was conducted among local Arab male and female teens aged twelve to nineteen years across all socio-economic classes. Face-to-face interviews were conducted with 2,000 teenagers in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
