New museums coming to the UAE

Fresh cultural destinations to open in Dubai and Abu Dhabi

• A tribute to Emirati poet Mubarak Al Aqaili is due to open in December, in his old house in Al Ras in Deira, according to Director of Architectural Heritage Department of Dubai Municipality Rashad Mohammed Bukhash. Al Aqaili (1880-1954) is dubbed one of the luminaries of Emirati literature. The poet’s works and photos will be on display for the public to learn more about his life.

• The Museum of Emirati Dress is also in the pipeline, showcasing clothes from the early 1900s. Different types of dresses worn by men, women and children, as well as fabric and colours worn by previous generations will all be on display.

• The Louvre Abu Dhabi will be the first universal museum in the Arab world. Born out of an agreement between the governments of Abu Dhabi and France, the Louvre Abu Dhabi will display art, manuscripts and objects of historical, cultural and sociological significance. It is due to open during 2014/2015.
