Art exhibitions in Abu Dhabi

Art in Space, Ramadan art and more free art to see in the city

Art in Space
Nope – not an exhibition of intergalactic-themed works (sadly), but rather a selection of pieces from some of the region’s most highly regarded sculptors. Gallery owner Salwa Zeidan will be unveiling some of her latest pieces, with support from Billy Lee, Caroline Ramersdorder, John Van Alstine, Gheorghi Filin, Hwang Seoung-Woo, Arya Azadi and Junyi Wang. Look out for some striking, abstract marble carvings from the latter.
Free. Until August 31. Salwa Zeidan Gallery (02 666 9656).

Colors of Extravagance
A lobby-based showcase of work from Emirati artists Fatma Lootah and Musab Abdul Qader Al Rais. While Musab goes for subtly toned watercolours, Fatma’s style is by contrast less conventional, sometimes using her hands and feet in place of a paintbrush. What unites both is a use of vivid, vibrant colours and a nod to their Emirati heritage.
Free. Until end of August. The Yas Hotel, Marina Wing lobby (02 656 000).

Ramadan Art Bazaar
As well as a chance to see the latest works from artists living and painting in the capital, this month-long show also offers browsers the opportunity to kick-start their art collection. In the spirit of the Holy Month, artists have been urged to attach reasonable price tags to their work, with a cap of Dhs4,000 imposed on all pieces in the exhibition. It’s first-come-first-served, so head along early to bag the good stuff.
Free. August 4-31. Ghaf Gallery (02 665 5332).
