Abu Dhabi’s new Hudayriat Island beach officially opens

The new development has ambitious plans for the future

Abu Dhabi’s newest beachfront entertainment complex has opened to the public – and it looks to have a bright future.
Located on the 3,000-hectare Hudayriat Island, south-west of the Abu Dhabi main island, Hudayriat Recreational Beach boasts a string of cool leisure and sports facilities.
It features four football fields, four volleyball courts, four basketball courts, four tennis courts, two beach football fields, two beach volleyball courts, and an open garden.
Visitors can choose from a whole host of food trucks providing a range of dining options.
And bosses hope to attract some of the world’s top sporting events to be staged there, increasing the capital’s status as a top tourism and recreation destination.
Dozens of UAE dignitaries attended a launch event on the island on Sunday, including H.H. Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan – Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Sports Council.
H.E. Falah Al Ahbabi, chairman of the Department of Urban Planning and Municipalities, said: “The opening of Hudayriat Recreational Beach is part of the vision of H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, to build a modern city and strengthen Abu Dhabi’s urban development.
“It is also in line with directives of H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, following his recent visit to Abu Dhabi Municipality.”
The 600 metre-long beach is open daily from 8am to 7pm and is free to use for the public.
It means Abu Dhabi’s famous ‘bridge to nowhere’ finally has a purpose as it leads visitors onto the island.
There are also three new slipways for boats and jet-skis, making it a must-visit for thrill-seekers in the capital.
