New footage shows Tom Cruise’s eye-watering 25,000ft plane jump above Abu Dhabi

Behind-the-scenes video gives us an insight into the incredible stunt

Excitement is building for Abu Dhabi film fans waiting to see the capital feature in the upcoming blockbuster Mission Impossible: Fallout.

Lead man Tom Cruise and his team filmed parts of the sixth and latest offering from the smash hit franchise in the capital, including a stomach-wrenching jump from a plane over the desert.

But you don’t need to wait until the release date on July 26 to see just how it was made as a new behind-the-scenes video offers a fascinating look at the incredible stunt.

A new 30-minute video of Tom Cruise performing stunts for the latest Mission Impossible film has been posted online.

It includes behind-the-scenes footage of him jumping out of a military aircraft above the desert in Abu Dhabi and freefalling for almost 25,000 feet.

And it also shows some of the funny bloopers which never made the final cut of the movie.

The footage has been posted to the Flix and the City YouTube channel.

Catch the Abu Dhabi segment of the video below from around 23 minutes in.

The video gives a detailed insider’s perspective on various helicopter, car and motorbike stunt scenes from locations around the world including a motorbike chase in Paris.

It has been reported that the High Altitude, Low Opening (HALO) jump in Abu Dhabi required Cruise to jump from a cargo plane at an altitude of 7,600 metres.

He was only able to release the parachute at just 600m above ground, which is a little bit too close for comfort.

And it apparently took more than 100 jumps to get the perfect final shot.

Cruise famously performs all of his own stunts and broke his ankle filming the latest instalment of the MI franchise.

Director Chris McQuarrie last week explained to the CinemaCon convention in Las Vegas: “How much is physically possible without killing Tom?”

Castmate Simon Pegg added. “The difference between you seeing these stunts and us seeing them is that you know that Tom lived.”

Mission Impossible: Fallout opens in UAE cinemas on July 26.
