UAE tourist hotspot bans barbecues

The move is aimed at protecting the ecosystem at Jebel Hafeet

Barbecue fans, we’ve got some bad news to bring you.

Outdoor grills have been banned at one of the UAE’s biggest tourist hotspots.

But the decision has been made to make sure the Jebel Hafeet mountain continues to be a popular draw for many years to come.

Officials have decided to introduce the move to protect the area’s ecosystem following reports of visitors leaving rubbish behind.

However, Al Ain Municipality has said that visitors can still barbecue in open and desert areas as well as Al Sulaimi and Al Mebrazah parks.

Those setting up barbecues are urged to abide by public hygiene standards, while teams will be carrying out cleanliness inspections.

Meanwhile, there are still plenty of open spaces in Abu Dhabi to enjoy some grill time.

Earlier this year, officials announced some 39 new public barbecue spaces would be introduced in the city.
