Justin Rose on HSBC Golf in Abu Dhabi

We caught up with the world number seven about his Dhabi debut

Hi Justin. Are you looking forward to coming to Abu Dhabi?
Very much as I have heard only positive things about the tournament from the players. Also, the last couple of years I have watched it on TV and thought it looked like a great place to play so I am really looking forward kicking off my season there.

Have you been told anything about the course?
I have heard it is challenging but a fair test and always in immaculate condition. I’m particularly looking forward to playing the 18th hole as that looks amazing on TV and there is some real potential for drama with all that water lurking to the right.

What have you heard about Abu Dhabi?
Nothing but positives. Everyone raves about the food, the accommodation, the way the TCA and HSBC really look after the players and most of all the fantastic condition of the course and all the excellent facilities on offer at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club.

View Rory McIlroy: I want to win HSBC Golf in Abu Dhabi

You finished just behind Rory McIlroy in Dubai in 2012. Do you think the Middle East is a bit of a lucky hunting ground for you?
Well, I thought I had done enough with that 62 yet Rory produced some pretty awesome golf to get it done. I think I need to post my first win in the Middle East before I think it is lucky but, after the last round I played there at the Earth course being so amazing, I am certainly hoping I keep the momentum going when I arrive in Abu Dhabi.

Given that you got so close to Rory last time around do you believe you can go all the way at Abu Dhabi?
Absolutely. As I said I had a fantastic end to my season and I am very happy with my game and looking forward to arriving in Abu Dhabi, ready to give it my best shot.

How did you find the crowds when you played in Dubai in 2012?
The crowds were great – especially during my 62 when they really got behind me.

Have you been doing any special preparation for Abu Dhabi?
I had a busy end to my season so I am having a bit of a rest with my family in South Africa to recharge my batteries before I start getting down to some serious practise to ensure I am ready to go when I eventually land in Abu Dhabi in January.

You’re good friends with last year’s winner Robert Rock – has he given you any special tips in terms of negotiating the course?
He hasn’t. He is a great guy and that was an amazing win for him last year when he handled the pressure so well with all those players breathing down his neck.
