Experiments & Objects: 1979-2011
Very few Emirati artists can boast bodies of work as extensive as Hassan Sharif’s. For the past 30 years, the enigmatic and mildly eccentric creative has been experimenting with all manner of domestic items, from sponge footballs to rubber sandals, typically crafting them into distorted, amorphous bundles. This, his first ever Abu Dhabi solo show, is a collection of the most intriguing. Sure, it won’t be to everyone’s taste, but those with an open mind ought to agree that it’s the most fascinating exhibition the capital has enjoyed in a long time.

Abdul Badi Abdul-Musawwir
An American artist seemingly intrigued by monochromatic, geometric forms and Islamic imagery provides plenty to ponder over. Having received his first artistic scholarship way back in 1956, expect the artist’s depth of experience to shine through, in the form of sturdy craftsmanship and plenty of attention to detail.

Sharmila Dance Extravaganza
Having entertained Dubai-based modern dance fans for the past decade, this eclectic evening of hip hop, jazz and street styles finally makes its debut in the capital. The event is organised and choreographed by Sharmila Kamte, a Middle Eastern dance professional who’s masterminded dance around the world over the past 20 years.

Splendours of Mesopotamia
This new exhibition boasts scores of priceless ancient artefacts discovered in the area covering modern day Iraq and Syria. Such heavyweight shows are a rarity in the city, so get stuck in while you can.

The Dawn of History
A collection of archaeological discoveries, made by Danish diggers in the emirate between 1958 and 1972 will be on display. So if you’re the owner of a ‘fossils rock!’ T-shirt, this ought to be like all your birthdays come at once.

BBC Concert Orchestra
The final night of the Abu Dhabi Classics season is almost upon us, and the closer stands to be one of the most enjoyable and accessible evening of high-class entertainment the city’s ever seen. Led by widely admired maestro Keith Lockhart, the BBC Concert Orchestra will be treating spectators to a night of music taken from and inspired by stage and screen. So yes, there’s a good chance you’ll get to hear the theme from The Empire Strikes Back.
