Countdown starts to fifth Abu Dhabi Film Festival

Amateur and professional filmmakers urged to submit movies

One of the biggest cultural events in the UAE, the Abu Dhabi Film Festival, has started preparing for its fifth outing in the city by asking film producers to start sending in their entries. From today, amateur and professional movie makers from all around the world can submit their works for the judges to view, with a chance to win a share of a US $1 million prize pot.

This year’s ceremony, which will be held from October 13-22 in cinemas across the city, will feature changes in some of the award categories. The Narrative, Documentary, Short Film and Afaq Jadida (New Horizons) competitions have been made to give Arab filmmakers a greater chance of bagging an award, with more emphasis on the Arab film industry.

There will also be Best Producer from the Arab World and Special Jury Award categories for the first time, which aim to bring further attention to the Middle East’s cinema industry.

The deadline for submissions in all categories is July 1. For more information visit www.adff.ae/submissions.
