The best iftars in Abu Dhabi for Ramadan 2019

Ramadan is a very special time of year here in Abu Dhabi, a time of great importance for the Muslim community of the city.

People observing Ramadan fast from sunrise to sunset every day, and then break their fast with an iftar.

The meal is a time for people to get together and enjoy the first meal of their day, and there are hundreds to choose from in the capital.

From traditional Middle Eastern buffets to high-end set menus, the options are vast.

Most meals start with a juice or water and a few dates before prayers are said and the rest of the meal is taken.

Ramadan is expected to start on Sunday May 5 and end on Tuesday June 4, when there will be a public holiday for Eid-al-Fitr.

We have listed the iftars in the city, by area, below.

Al Ain

Flavours
This brilliant iftar experience offers hot and cold mezze, a variety of soups, hearty main courses such as lamb ouzi and a range of live cooking stations. Those with a sweet tooth will also enjoy the great range of traditional Arabic desserts.

Zest Restaurant
Head down to the Garden City to enjoy an iftar at Zest Restaurant that features live cooking stations and a buffet that offers a range of starters, main course and desserts including Middle Eastern food and some international dishes.

Al Bateen

Byblos Sur Mer
This feast starts off with hot and cold mezze, including all your favourite plates such as hummus, fattoush salad and spicy lamb sausages. The main course includes huge mixed grills and daily specials, and you can finish off the night with a visit to the dessert buffet.

Celebrity Restaurant
Gather your family and friends to enjoy an iftar at Celebrity Restaurant, where you can get into the spirit of the season with a lavish buffet spread featuring seasonal favourites and traditional dishes.

Cho Gao Marina Walk
This is an iftar with a Pan-Asian twist. The plates are influenced from countries across the continents, with wasabi prawns, chicken percik and more. Or, if there’s nothing you fancy on the set menu, you can always order from the à la carte.

Market at EDITION
This trendy hotel is putting on a spread of traditional Arabic dishes, which have been given a contemporary twist. This is the hotel’s first Ramadan in the capital, and it’s certain to be pulling out all the stops.

Mezze Restaurant
Take a trip to the luxury hotel where the daily iftar at Mezze Restaurant will serve a generous buffet featuring a host of traditional dishes and seasonal favourites for families to enjoy together. Be sure to ask if the buy one, get one deal is running.

Selections
The buffet at this friendly restaurant includes a huge variety of international dishes from around the world. The authentic Arabic specialties are particularly unmissable.

Al Maryah Island

99 Sushi Bar & Restaurant
A ten-course iftar menu of fresh sushi and Japanese specialties. Full of fantastic flavours, the creative plates include capumiso soup, tiger prawn tempura, soft-shell crab maki, salmon flambe nigiri and much more.

Al Maryah Ballroom
Enjoy a little extravagance this Ramadan with the iftar at Al Maryah Ballroom where a range of Lebanese, Egyptian, Indian and Asian dishes will be served, you can visit live cooking stations and listen to music including a live oud player.

Biryani Pot
Take a trip to The Galleria on Al Maryah Island where you can break your fast with Indian cuisine thanks to a special menu of Arabian chicken mandi, aromatic soup and jarjeer salad.

Butcher and Still
Head along to Al Maryah Island and indulge in an iftar that features a selection of prime cuts of meat imported from the USA, cooked as you like them as part of a seasonal three-course menu.

Cafe Milano
Take in the picturesque views over the water around Al Maryah Island at Cafe Milano where you can enjoy an iftar with a twist as the stylish restaurant serves a range of Italian dishes and delicacies after the sun sets over the city.

COYA
A set menu filled with colourful Peruvian creations, including seabass croquettes, chicken tacos, beetroot causa, mushroom and avocado maki rolls and more. Those with a sweet tooth can also enjoy a slice of pistachio date cake or a bowl of banana ice cream with puffed rice.

La Petite Maison
Specialising in quality French cuisine, the iftar menu at La Petite Maison is inspired by the French Riviera. The night starts off with soup and dates, while the starters include green lentils, quinoa salad, tuna carpaccio and calamari.  The mains also sound very tempting, with grilled sirloin, lamb cutlets and tiger prawns all on offer. You’ll also need to save room for dessert, as there’s a choice of cheesecake, warm chocolate mousse or pistachio cake.

Sambusek
This lavish spread of Arabic and international cuisine can be enjoyed whilst taking in the tremendous views over the waters surrounding Al Maryah Island. There’s also live music from the kanoon and oud duo Khalid and Razan.

Fairways
The brilliant buffet of traditional delicacies includes a whole lamb ouzi, hot and cold mezze and numerous live stations. Plus, the whole experience is made even more special by live music from a qanun player.

The magnificent iftar buffet at this family-friendly restaurant features hot and cold mezze, soups, salads, traditional main courses like lamb ouzi, and live stations serving shawarma and falafel.

Sumo Sushi and Bento

Break your fast with a Japanese-inspired feast at Sumo Sushi where guests can enjoy an iftar that features a choice of three different set menus with classic sushi, noodles and rice dishes.

The Grill
You don’t have to move a muscle at this iftar feed. The four-course set menu is delivered straight to your table, and the stylish restaurant area is the perfect place to relax.

The Grill
This enormous buffet features all your favourite Middle Eastern dishes, and you can wash it all down with free-flowing Arabic juices and water. The floor-to-ceiling windows provide brilliant views of the golf course as you eat.

Al Zahiya

Essence

Kahraman

Al Tasamoh Tent

Emirates Palace
This is one of the fanciest iftar experiences in the capital, and it really has to be seen to be believed. It all takes place within the grand Ramadan Pavilion out on terrace, where guests are treated to tremendous views over the private beach. As you watch the sunset with your family and friends, you can work your way through the incredible spread of Arabic plates and international cuisines, visit the many live stations and treat yourself to a dessert or two.

Flavours
A brilliant buffet featuring all the best dishes from the Middle East, including samke harra, lamb ouzi, dawood basha and garlic and coriander shrimps. But that’s not all, on top of that there’s Indian and Asian specialties, and carving stations serving chicken, turkey, beef brisket, lamb legs and salmon.

Hakkasan
Elegant Chinese restaurant Hakkasan will be serving an iftar with a twist with dishes from the Far East including mushroom soup, Peking duck, a selection dim sum, wok fried beef, specially-crafted desserts and more.

Iftar In The Sky
You’d be hard pushed to find an iftar in the capital that’s more glamorous than this. Taking place in the world’s highest suspended suite, you can take in the views of the city from an incredible 220m up in the sky. There’s a huge variety of traditional Arabian delicacies, a dedicated dessert room (featuring all the best sweet treats like kunafa and atayef) and live music to help set the mood.

Layali Al Baraka
Set under an ornate installation, this is a very special iftar venue. The spread includes Middle Eastern recipes and there’s also a whole hour of live music from an oud player.

Leopolds of London
The British café is serving an iftar buffet at the Nation Towers branch for Dh99, and a family sharing meal at all branches.

The Garden Restaurant

Ingredients

Al Andalus Tent
The Fairmont Bab Al Bahr’s tent is always one of the most stunning in the capital This year it holds more than 500 people. There’s a buffet offering that includes a huge array of Middle Eastern dishes, water, juices and Ramadan drinks.

La Brasserie

From Thursday to Saturday there’s an iftar buffet at the Saadiyat Beach Golf Club venue will plenty of Middle Eastern classics, as well as a kids’ buffet. Parties of four people will get an extra person free if you book ahead. There are limited numbers each night so check before you go.

The Food Incubator is one of the coolest and most casual iftars around. The foodie hub will also provide live entertainment during the weekends.
