Snoop Dogg and Shakira to play Abu Dhabi concerts

Gangsta rap star and Colombian singer prepare for Yas Island shows

If you’ve been dying with anticipation about who the two final Yas Island gigs of the season are, before the summer heat destroys the joys of outdoor entertainment, your wait is over..

Time Out Abu Dhabi can reveal that LA gangsta rapper Snoop Dogg and Colombian songstress Shakira will round off Flash Entertainment’s spring concert schedule.

Snoop, real name Calvin Broadus, is one of the true greats of hip hop. The world was introduced to his laidback rapping flow when he collaborated on Dr Dre’s solo debut album The Chronic in 1992. But Snoop really became a global megastar with his 1993 debut Doggystyle, which became the fastest selling rap album ever. Since then, he’s released 10 further albums, starred in numerous Hollywood movies, such as Starsky and Hutch and Bruno, and had his own hit MTV show. Snoop’s pencilled in to play Yas Arena on May 6.

Before that, on April 29, Shakira is thought to be making her second appearance in the city, after she played a gig here for New Year 2009. Since then, the singer, who’s immensely popular in the Arab World because of her Lebanese roots, has had a global hit with the FIFA 2010 World Cup anthem Waka Waka and has just released her seventh studio album Sale el Sol. Fans of the Hips Don’t Lie singer won’t want to miss this one.
