Exciting exhibition opening at The Louvre Abu Dhabi

Dragon and Phoenix – Centuries of Exchange between Chinese and Islamic Worlds will open in October

Louvre Abu Dhabi is an architectural wonder and a landmark for the arts in the UAE capital.

Beneath the dome (which is worth making the trip to Saadiyat Island to see all on its own), you’ll find a collection of historical artifacts, works of art, and ever-changing exhibitions.

Never leaving us without something new to see or experience, the museum is constantly changing and bringing more work to the city, and is part of what makes Abu Dhabi a global destination for the arts.

Now Louvre Abu Dhabi has announced its second international exhibition of 2021: Dragon and Phoenix – Centuries of Exchange between Chinese and Islamic Worlds, which will run from Wednesday October 6 2021 until Saturday February 12 2022.

The Dragon and Phoenix exhibition is being organised by Louvre Abu Dhabi in partnership with Musée national des arts asiatiques – Guimet with the support of France Muséums. It will showcase the cultural and artistic exchange between the Chinese and Islamic civilisations from the 8th to the 18th century.

There you’ll find more than 200 artworks and a wide-ranging cultural programme with artefacts from two worlds: China (the dragon) and the Islamic world (the phoenix).

The exhibition showcases the connections, artistic influences and remarkable untold stories of more than 800 years of exchange through land and sea trade routes.

Highlights from the exhibition include a rare Yuan dynasty gold Cup with dragon-shaped handle from China, some of the best luxury silk fabrics ever created, a “Fabulous animal” (potentially a dragon) chiseled on gilded silver, plus drawings, manuscripts and ink paintings.

The exhibition will open on Wednesday October 6. Pre-purchased tickets are required to visit the museum, and e-tickets can be reserved via the museum’s website.

Closed on Mondays. Museum entry Dhs63, free for under 18s and over 60s. Louvre Abu Dhabi, Saadiyat Island, louvreabudhabi.ae (600 565 566).
