You can now be fined Dhs1,000 for littering on the roads in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi police has announced that the new penalty will be a fine and six traffic points

Abu Dhabi Police (ADP) has introduced a new law to help make the capital a cleaner place.

Article 71 of the Traffic Law applies to littering from vehicles on the road while driving, and the punishment for this offence is now a fine of Dh1,000 and six traffic points.

Smart traffic systems will be monitoring behaviour on the roads in the city, with the ADP adding that “necessary legal procedures will be initiated against violators.”

ADP states that littering on roads “is a negative form of behaviour that disrupts traffic and could lead to accidents.”

Drivers and road users have also been reminded that uncivilised behaviour can damage the capital’s image and negatively affect the environment.
