Murjan Splash Park

Family-favourite water park in Khalifa Park, Abu Dhabi

Now that the hot summer sun has finally retreated, Murjan Splash Park is one of the top go-to destinations for enjoying the outdoors with your family in the city.

Having opened just after Ramadan in 2011, the Murjan Splash Park has proved to be a family favourite destination located in one of Abu Dhabi’s most visited public parks, Khalifa Park – which, by the end of August this year, has enjoyed nearly 110,000 patrons stopping by to enjoy the area’s attractions, of which Murjan is a prime spot.

Even though Khalifa Park is currently closed for at least four more weeks, Murjan Splash Park is remaining resolutely open and now that the hot weather has finally broken, there is even more reason to stop by with the whole family to see what fun there is for all ages.

The water park is still doing well despite the park being closed, and for the children visiting there is a great atmosphere. The number of visitors has been consistently steady week in and week out, so don’t be put off by Khalifa Park’s closing.

The park opens from 3pm-7pm during the week throughout October, and from 10am-7pm on Fridays and Saturdays, with ladies-only days on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, offering plenty of amphibious fun. A themed lighting system and ground projection are just two of the allures of the park, not to mention food and snacks in the form of nachos, pizza and salad (with ice cream to finish off).

The real stars are, of course, the attractions themselves. The water park boasts a huge play structure, consisting of four slides and an assortment of water guns, sprays and tipping buckets taking centre stage, while a 268 metre-long ‘lazy river’ winds along the back of the park. Bumper boats, trampolines and a surfboard bronco make up the rest of the park’s activities, not to mention a water balloon wars game help to make dousing your family all the more fun. There’s even a pirate ship.

While the park is designed with children in mind, the whole family are encouraged to enjoy it. Adult involvement is not essential but welcomed, and if adults don’t want to get involved, they can sit back and have a coffee. The pricing policy for Murjan is pretty fair too, it’s dependent on height; guests over 75 centimetres tall pay only Dhs40, while those below 75 centimetres go completely free. It’s a pretty reasonably priced attraction for the whole family to enjoy.

Murjan is certianly one of a kind – it’s not like anything in Abu Dhabi. It’s not really comparable to Yas Waterworld, because those parks are on a different scale and tailored to a different crowd – but for the price you pay, it’s value for money.

The park can also host birthday parties where you can invite up to 50 guests to your very own reserved area.

Murjan takes great pride in its wide focus on health and safety; for instance, it took part in the world’s biggest swimming lesson in June, filling the park to capacity with some of the event’s 32,450 participants. This is all part of a drive to get children involved in aquatic safety, which is very important, so there’s less to worry about while you’re having fun.

Though there is talk of expanding the attraction in a year’s time, there is plenty that Murjan Splash Park provides right now to keep the kids, young and old, occupied and entertained. And now that the busy March-August period is over, you’ll be able to avoid the crowds as well.
