Go, go gadget

The latest bits and pieces for geeks to get their mits on this month. Don’t be shy, you know you want to

A whole new dimension

Go 3D with the latest eye-stretching gadgets
Picture this
Fuji have gone all extra dimensional. We’ll have to wait until September for it to be launched upon the world, but the double-lensed Fujifilm 3D is banking on you really wanting it thanks to a rumoured price of US$600 (Dhs2,200). Meanwhile the FinePix Real 3D V1 displays the pictures in all its full, garish 3D digital photo frame glory.

Who’s lookin’ at you
If you have the confidence to video call while wearing wacky 3D glasses, this Minoru stereoscopic webcam is great fun. It looks cute, plus an added bonus is the ability to shoot 3D films and upload to YouTube (or indeed, anywhere) should you be feeling creative. Hardly necessary, but cute nonetheless.

Game for a laugh
Samsung’s new 3D bundle kit – the dramatically named GeForce – comes with a monitor and NVIDIA device which converts over 350 games, as well as movies, into a 3D experience without the need for a software patch. Naturally, you’ve got to wear the traditional glasses (designed to also be worn with prescription glasses, if required), but the result is still pretty impressive.

Future tech

While ultra-thin OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) TVs are the future of television, it doesn’t stop electronics companies experimenting. Take, for example, this collaboration between Samsung and industrial designer Yves Béhar. Utilising LED technology used in reducing power consumption in your average TV, he’s gone all Blade Runner with this club-style light installation. Yeah, we say, but you can’t watch the football on it.

The big picture

It’s too hot outside anyway. You may as well cool off with the biggest and best living room gadgets
Eyes wide open
Billed as ‘The world’s largest hi-definition plasma display’, get on down to Plug-Ins Electronix to witness 103 inches of plasma fury. But no matter what they claim, the image still isn’t perfect. If you have the cash, though, you’ve got to get it for the brag factor.

Rocking out
If you’re going to sit in front of the world biggest plasma TV, you may as well feel every inch of its sonic power. The Pyramat Sound Rocker’s twin eight-watt speakers and a 30-watt subwoofer provides a truly bone-rattling experience.

Beosound 9000
Admittedly a CD player is a bit old hat these days, but the Beolink PC 2 software means that the Beosound 9000 can also access your digital library too. But, in fairness, if you’re buying this you’re in it for the bling anyway.
