Eid al-Adha in the UAE: Start date will be Sunday August 11

Moon sighting in Saudi Arabia confirms start of the Dhu Al Hijjah month

The Eid al-Adha break will begin on Sunday August 11, it has been reported. 

An observatory in Saudi Arabia has spotted the Dhu Al Hijjah moon today (Thursday August 1) and Eid falls on the 10th day of Dhu Al Hijjah. 

The confirmation was first made in Saudi Arabia before the UAE followed suit. 

That means the public holidays will fall on August 11, 12 and 13, with a return to work on August 14.

It’s a particlarly special time of year for Muslims and commorates the culmination of the pilgrimage to Mecca.
