You can now buy a giant dinosaur skeleton in the UAE

You’re going to need a giant house and at least Dhs14 million if you win the auction

Sometimes you can end up with some random antiques and bits of furniture in your house, but we bet you haven’t got your own dinosaur skeleton.

A dinosaur, you ask? Yes, a massive 155 million-year-old dinosaur skeleton will be for sale as Emirates Auction organises the Middle East’s first online sale.

You might have seen the 24.4 metre-long by 7 metre-high skeleton, which dates back to the Jurassic period, at Dubai Mall, where it has lived since 2014.

It will be offered at a starting value of Dhs14.6 million ($3.97 million) and bids will end on August 25, according to Emirates Auction.

The beast would have weighed the equivalent of five elephants in its prime and was one of the long-necked herbivorous dinosaurs with a tail tapering to a long, thin whip-like end to defend itself against predators. You might know them better as the diplodocus.

Almost 90 percent of the skeleton consists of original dino bones, with the rest added to complete the structure.

It was discovered in a sleeping position in 2008 at the Dana Quarry in the US state of Wyoming and was previously displayed at the Houston Museum of Natural Science in the US state of Texas. It was sourced through Khalid Seddiq, founder of Etihad Modern Art Gallery in Abu Dhabi, and was put on permanent display at The Dubai Mall in 2014.

Anyone got Dhs14.6m they can lend us? We think it would look great in the office.
