Abu Dhabi’s new Mangrove walk opened at the end of January.
Ready to visit? Here’s what you need to know before you set off.
How to get there?
The new attraction on Jubail Island, located between Saadiyat Island and Yas Island, opened to the public on January 30.
The location can be accessed coming from Yas Island or Dubai or the other direction from downtown Abu Dhabi and Saadiyat Island.
Search for Jubail Island on your GPS and once you arrive follow signs for Mangrove Park.
When is it open?
The walkway is open daily from 8am to 6.30pm. It’s free of charge and will allow you to take a stroll through the mangroves, explore the natural landscape and go wildlife spotting.
Before you visit, it’s worth noting that a maximum holding capacity is in place at the attraction.
If visitor numbers exceed the maximum number you will have to wait for some visitors to leave before being permitted entry into the walkway.
What can you do there?
There are three pathways to walk, the longest covers a distance of 2km and the shortest is 1km.
A floating platform with netting is also on site where you can take a look at the marine life underwater.
In addition rangers are on site around the park to answer questions you have about the local environment and wildlife.
A kids play area, information centre and viewing platform (for those perfect pictures) is also at the site.
Is it safe for children?
It is child friendly, but children under the age of 12 aren’t allowed to enter unsupervised.
Schools are also able to book trips to the site to learn about the local ecosystem.
There is also a children’s educational area.
Can you have a picnic?
First and foremost, the Mangrove Walk is a ecological site.
There is a strict no-food policy at the attraction meaning that litter and packaging taken on to the site will be minimalised to help preserve the natural environment.
There is a café on site selling hot drinks and some food but no food or packaging will be permitted along the Walkway to help preserve the local ecosystem.
Anything else to know?
It is free of charge to visit the attraction but different experiences will be had a different times of the day.
In times of high tide you will be able to spot a variety of wildlife including fish and birds, however in times of low tide there will be less water and marine life will be at a minimum.
The attraction is also set to close in the summer months, however an exact date is yet to be announced.
In addition pets are not permitted, you cannot smoke or go fishing at the site either.
