Another world record has been broken in Dubai

Dubai-based artist Sacha Jafri sets Guinness World Record for ‘The Largest Art Canvas’ in the world

Another day, another Guinness World Records broken – that’s Dubai for you.

Dubai-based British artist and philanthropist Sacha Jafri has broken the world record for ‘The Largest Art Canvas’ in the world.

The Guinness World Records-breaking piece, entitled ‘The Journey of Humanity’ took Jafri seven months of working 20 hours per day to complete, using 1,065 paint brushes and 6,300 litres of paint. Those are some impressive numbers.

In partnership with Dubai Cares and Atlantis The Palm, and supported by the Ministry of Tolerance and Coexistence and the UAE’s Ministry of Education, the thought-provoking piece aims to raise $30 million (that’s a mind-blowing Dhs110,189,400) for Dubai Cares, UNICEF, UNESCO and The Global Gift Foundation.

The staggering piece has been broken down into numbered, signed, catalogued and framed canvases, 70 of which will be sold across four auctions in 2021. The money raised will go towards helping change the lives of children in need: children from some of the poorest regions of the world and those affected by the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It was an honour to receive the Guinness World Records title for my project ‘The Journey of Humanity’. This is just the beginning of the ‘Humanity Inspired’ journey. ‘Humanity Inspired’ and ‘The Journey of Humanity’ is much more than a painting, it is my initiative for true societal change through the hearts, minds and souls of the children of the world – a springboard for a better future for all humanity,” said Sacha Jafri.

With a global reach of more than 2.5 billion people worldwide, the extraordinary 17,176.6 sq ft painting can be found at Atlantis The Palm’s ballroom.

Celebrating hope, culture and inspiration, the grand reveal (which will be a private event) is happening on Thursday February 25 with special performances from top international talent including British singer, songwriter, actress and activist Leona Lewis of “Bleeding Love” fame.

If you’re looking to learn more about Sacha Jafri and his work, selected pieces from ‘The Journey of Humanity’ will be on show at the Leila Heller Gallery in Dubai’s Alserkal Avenue until May.
