Art Exhibitions in Abu Dhabi

RSTW, Contemporary Romanian art and more Abu Dhabi exhibitions

RSTW

Having already hosted the likes of Pablo Picasso and Jackson Pollock, this blockbuster of a show sees Abu Dhabi add Ed Ruscha, Richard Serra, Cy Twombly and Andy Warhol (from whom RSTW derives its name) to its rapidly growing collection of A-list exhibitors. It is all thanks to legendary New York-based art impresario Larry Gagosian, who has brought his previously unseen private collection of artwork to the city. This pop art extravaganza is undoubtedly the biggest art event of the year for the capital, and should not be missed by anyone.

Contemporary Romanian Art

Though not traditionally regarded as one of Europe’s most thriving creative hubs, it seems Romania has, on the sly, been busy forging itself a highly credible art scene. So much so that five artists from the country are now exhibiting right here in Abu Dhabi, showcasing their paintings, sculptures and mixed-media canvases. Bucharest-born Mihai Docea is the pick of the show – he’s courted the media’s attention both at home and in the UK and America, garnering praise for his vibrant, chaotic creations.

The Art of Sumayyah Al Suwaidi

Hailed as the first digital Emirati artist (meaning she creates images with computers, not that she’s a robot), Sumayyah Al Suwaidi pitches her cartoon-like images as a means of escapism from the often overbearing chaos of urban life. It’s a brief show, so grab a glimpse of this promising local talent while you can.
