What’s happening with Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed National Museum?

What we know so far

Saadiyat Island is set to become the leading cultural destination of the UAE and home to some to the finest museums in the region and even the world.

The island is already home to one stunning museum with Louvre Abu Dhabi which opened in late 2017.

Next set to open in Abu Dhabi is Zayed National Museum, the national museum of the UAE.

An exact opening date is yet to be confirmed but construction is well underway on the project.

Previously, a video released by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (TCA) on social media showed the progress being made at the site as the ambitious structure takes shape.

Designed to resemble the wings of a falcon, the museum’s concept was created by UK architects Foster and Partners and features a cluster of towers, the biggest of which will be 123 metres high.

Once opened the museum’s collection will tell the story of the UAE’s founding father Sheikh Zayed and explore the history of the UAE dating back thousands of years.

The British Museum will loan a number of items to Zayed National Museum after signing a ten-year agreement to assist with curating the exhibition and to lend exhibits.

We can’t wait to see inside.
