We meet the real Cinderella

The fairytale heroine speaks before appearing On Ice

The Imperial Ice Stars have brought world-class production Cinderella On Ice to enchant audiences. We had a chat with Cinderella herself.

Cinderella, have you been to Abu Dhabi before?
No, never. This is my first visit to Abu Dhabi because my step-mother and sisters don’t generally let me out of the house. With all the work they give me, such opportunities are very rare. I’m very excited about my stay here. There is so much to do! And between you and me, if I can manage it, I think I might even try and run away from my family!

What are your plans while you are here?
I’d love to see the city – if my step-mother gives me permission that is. I’d like to go out and see the sand dunes, mosques, museums, and everything else that this beautiful city has to offer.

We didn’t know you could ice-skate; where did you learn that?
I learnt it back home, in Russia. I’d sneak away to practice at the nearest skating rink when I had spare time. Ever since I was a young girl, it has been my dream to be a skater and I’d practice whenever possible to be the best at it.

Are your step-sisters coming to Abu Dhabi too?
Yes, they will be there too. I’m not allowed to go anywhere without them, unfortunately. I’m only here because of them. I learn to live with it. It’s fine.

It must be nice to get away from home and all your house work, are you staying in a nice hotel?
Oh yes, absolutely! It is just like a dream come true. The hotel is so beautiful and there are such nice people here. Everything I ask for is done for me, which is a very unusual experience for me. Normally I’m the one taking the orders. I’d love to just stay here and even help out in the kitchens if they need me. I’m happy doing house work – it’s all I know.

Are you looking forward to performing for everyone?
Of course I am! I’m really looking forward to showing everyone what skills I’ve learnt. I’ve put in a lot of effort practicing the act, which I’m eager to share with the audiences.

Who else can we expect to see at the show?
I’m performing with an amazing cast from the Imperial Ice Stars group. They are so talented and their skills on the ice are brilliant! I couldn’t ask for a better team to be performing with and I feel very honoured and humbled to have been given this opportunity.

How often do you practice ice skating?
Ice skating is not an easy thing and requires a lot of practice. I want to be the best at it, so I do it every day. I make sure to sneak out of the house before my step-mother and sisters wake up to train. They really wouldn’t be happy if they knew I was our enjoying myself in this way.
Cinderella On Ice will be at ADNEC from October 2-5. Tickets start from Dhs160. www.adnec.ae.
