How to dress for brunch

Comfy pants, running shoes and more fashionable brunch tips

‘It’s not easy to look chic when you’re shovelling down your third plateful of biryani or knocking back another shot of dessert, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try. Abu Dhabi brunches might be a little more casual than the catwalk show that is Dubai’s Friday feast, but you should still make an effort. Brunch is a daytime event, so think smart casual rather than thigh-skimming skirts and skyscraper heels. And, from a practical standpoint, if you’re visiting a cross-restaurant brunch expect long walks or even steps that will have to be negotiated, so tottering about in stilettos while trying to balance a piled-high plate of dessert is a disaster waiting to happen.

However, if you’re intent on standing out, block colours are bang on trend – and it’s time to get clashing. Check out H&M or Mango for some affordable options. Mustard is a key hue this season, but if you don’t want to go all out, a subtle flash of colour will separate you from the pack – try a statement belt, oversized clutch or even a super bright mani-pedi. And speaking of manicures, what better way to celebrate this season’s snakeskin trend than with a splash of the real thing? Flip to page 28 to find out how we fared when we tried a snakeskin manicure for ourselves. If you don’t want to go that far, Aldo has launched its new season of nature-inspired accessories, incorporating tiger print and peacock feathers into a range of bags, bangles and earrings. Oh, and remember you’re there for the food; tight, binding clothing is obviously a bad idea. Going for comfort but don’t want to sacrifice style? Check out Dorothy Perkins and Topshop for a range of this season’s floaty florals – perfect brunching attire.’
