6 healthy dishes to try at Dubai International Airport

Give yourself a boost before you take off from DXB

Flying from Dubai International Airport and want to keep it healthy? We hear you. It’s simple really – what we eat affects our health. And while we’d like to be scoffing chips and shovelling in chocolate cake all day every day, there’s no denying that’s not doctor-recommended.

And especially with the current focus on health, it’s important to fuel our bodies in the best possible ways, so looking at your diet can help. Loading up on fresh veggies, seeds, turmeric, nuts and citrus fruits can help give us all a little pick-me-up.

And while these dishes alone won’t stop you getting sick, it’s a step in the right direction, right? Here are six healthy dishes to try before you fly at Dubai International Airport.

Avocado on toast at Tranzeet

Shun the fried eggs and sausages and get stuck into this dish. Ripe avocado is piled on sourdough toast, sprinkled with red zaatar, feta, coriander, pine nuts and a squeeze of lime for a Middle Eastern twist on a breakfast staple. Avocado has loads of health benefits – including being full of good fats, helping to boost your immune system and metabolism, while being rich in potassium. Add a freshly squeezed orange juice for some vitamin C and that’s a top start to your day right there.

Cauliflower vegan wrap at Jones the Grocer

Swerve the cheese toasties (we know, it’s hard) and go plant-based ahead of your trip with this vegan-friendly wrap. Packed full of goodness, it’s stuffed with red pepper hummus, avocado, peppers, cucumber, purple cabbage, dill and lemon dressing. Chickpeas are chock-a-block with plant-based protein, while spinach is said to boost your immune system. All those veggies have to be doing something good, right?

Cold-pressed juice at Treehouse Juicery

Not hungry? A fresh juice is an ideal way to get in your fruit and veggies. Pick between juices including The Cleanser (apple, celery, cucumber, parsley and spinach) or The Regulator (pineapple, apple, mint, kale and coconut water) among others. At Treehouse Juicery you can pick up a juice to go, too, so you don’t even need loads of time. What’s your excuse?

Egg and avocado protein pot at Pret A Manger

This is super-simple. Free-range eggs (rich in omega-3 fatty acids), fresh spinach (thought to be immune boosting, plus lots of iron), avocado (rich in fibre and vitamin E) all in one pot. At 250 calories per serving it also weighs in with 12g of protein and 3.4g of fibre, making it a top choice for your body. Follow it up with the superfruit salad, stuffed with mango, kiwi, pomegranate seeds and orange, it’s basically sunshine in a pot (and bursting with goodness).

Greek yoghurt with berries at Hard Rock Cafe

You thought Hard Rock was all about the burgers and fries? You thought wrong. Start your day in a healthy way with this parfait. Greek yoghurt is an excellent source of calcium, while having up to twice as much protein as normal yoghurt. Plus it contains probiotics, which support a healthy gut. This version is layered with honey and berries – which are loaded with antioxidents and goes into helping reach your five-a-day, too.

Porridge bowl at Giraffe

Oats mean slow-release energy, so if you’re after fuel for your journey, this could be for you. Giraffe specialises in world food, so while you’ll also get stacks of pancakes and omelettes on the morning menu, this porridge is a healthier choice. Topped with strawberries, bananas and honey, there’s a scattering of toasted seeds – which are packed full of fibre and antioxidents as well as adding crunch.
